Safer Streets
Safer Streets 5 is funded on behalf of The Home Office through the Police and Crime Commissioner for Wiltshire and Swindon. In addition to our work based in Swindon, we have partnered with The Bridge Youth Project, Salisbury, The Rise Trust, Chippenham, and Iprovefit, leading on crime prevention activities in Wiltshire.
Safer Streets Detached
Our Street-Based Mentors connect with young people “on their turf” in their communities, being present in various locations across Swindon. Through weekly pop-ups and trails, our mentors support young people to connect with their community, leading in youth engagement and youth-led community organising.
This offer encourages young people to respect, emphasise and feel a part of their local community and environment, recognising their rights and responsibilities as citizens and increasing their access to services available in their area.
To support young people to get involved with SMASH Street Based Mentoring, please ask them to look out for our bright blue tops and hoodies.
We are delighted to be developing this offer across Swindon and Wiltshire in partnership with The Police and Crime Commissioner as part of the Safer Streets Home Office Initiative.
Safer Relationships, Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG)
Safer Relationships, Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) is a school based self-referral group mentoring program, empowering young women in education to discuss and recognise unsafe behaviours in friendships and relationships. Through a collaborative, female lead programme, students are encouraged to explore topics including sexual harassment, coercive control, consent and social media, challenging inequalities in a psychologically safe group environment.
VAWG works with young women between the ages 11 to 16 in school, running 1.5 hour group sessions for a period of 12 weeks. Topics covered by the group are relative and appropriate to the age group they are working with.
Assessment Child Protection 1-to-1 Mentoring
Working alongside the Assessment and Child Protection Team, SMASH offers support to young people during their referral process. This project acts as a stepping stone for young people who are awaiting further support, providing them with immediate, person-centred help.
