SMASH Curry Night In February

On Tuesday 27th February 2018, the coldest night of the year,  the Bengal Square Curry House was a welcome place to be for a delicious Indian Buffet.   50 people enjoyed a variety of dishes knowing that all profits from the evening would be donated to SMASH by the Bengal Square.  There were plenty of winners of the vast array of raffle prizes all kindly donated. These included vouchers for the Manor Farm Pub and a train ticket donated by GWR.  In total £425 was raised, £250 from the Bengal Square and £175 from the raffle.  Thank you to everyone that supported the evening and to our Friends of SMASH fundraising group for organising it.

Thank You Emma!

Many thanks to Emma Lord, a SMASH Mentor, for hosting an evening talking about mental health earlier this week. The evening was very informative and everyone there learnt something new.

It was a great way to help reduce the stigma around mental ill health.

Emma has offered to host such an event again later in the year for which we are very grateful.

More information and invites will follow once a date has been agreed.

Help us change lives – we are looking for two new trustees…….

SMASH is the youth mentoring charity that serves Swindon. We believe that it only takes one person to change a life. We do this through volunteer youth mentoring, group work and practical advice and support for our young people and their families and guardians.

We help 9-19 year olds, who have or are suffering trauma or difficulties, regain control of their lives. Thanks to our dedicated and hardworking team we are proud to say that 86% of our young people report an increase in control and go on to continue to make self directed positive change.

“I beg anyone to please choose this charity because I cannot say this without tears but it really does change our children’s life for the better. I hate to think where my son would be now without SMASH, it doesn’t bear thinking about”. – Parent.

To ensure we can continue to help the children of Swindon whilst maintaining our high standards, within a changing strategic landscape, we are looking to appoint two new Trustees to join the Board in its role as governing body; setting policy, strategy and ensuring robust governance and financial control.

We are keen to bring additional skills to our Board through the appointment of individuals who ideally have a background in one of the following areas:

  • Financial experience
  • Educational experience
  • Clinical experience in relation to young people

If you would like to be part of an inspirational team of people, who find meaning and purpose in driving change and making a positive contribution to society – please contact us for a chat.

For an informal and confidential discussion regarding the application process or roles, please contact Helen Fisher, Managing Director on 01793 729 748
