Great SMASH Christmas Party at Jolly Rogers

SMASH would like to say a huge “Thank You” for a fantastic party on Tuesday night at Jolly Rogers. It’s always the highlight of the memory making year and without the support of Mentors, we simply wouldn’t be able to go ahead.

This is the first year where we asked the children to complete an evaluation form at the end of the evening (previously we have sent them out afterwards). All but one child said that they made friends. ALL of them said they had an amazing, or awesome (even orsum!), or fun, or happy, or ecelent (!), or exciting, or glorious time! Although the children did not like the sandwiches!!

Happy Christmas to our very happy Mentors who attended the party and appeared to enjoy themselves more than our children and young people! and a big thank you also to Jolly Rogers for a great event.

An Award for SMASH!

Well done SMASH!  On Tuesday 5th December,  SMASH was awarded the prestigious Kids Count Highly Commended Award for inspiring the House of Commons.  Here are Helen and Clare with Justin Tomlinson MP,  proudly accepting the award in Parliament on behalf of all volunteers, children and young people, past and present, who have been supported by our Project.

Charlie Paradise joins SMASH as a Trustee

Hi my name is Charlie and I am really looking forward to becoming part of the SMASH family and really helping to make a difference.

I currently work for the council in the Community Health and Wellbeing team, supporting local people of all ages to overcome their challenge/ barriers to leading a healthier and sometimes happier lifestyle. I have worked with young people for the last 10 years in different roles and I understand how challenging life can be with all the pressures of growing up, education and sometimes home life- charities like SMASH are essential to help young people have the best chance they can to reach their potential.

I am hoping to bring some passion, experience and hard work to the table to help SMASH become resilient to the growing demands and changing landscape, supporting the volunteers who make such a big difference in the local community. I have experience of working in the charity sector, public service and university settings and I am really looking forward to working with you all.

Trustees Needed At SMASH

We are seeking volunteers to join us on our Board of Trustees which currently meets on a monthly basis for a couple of hours. There would also be a need to commit a few additional hours each month to undertake board related duties. Currently, we have two specific vacancies to fill –  the role of Secretary and the role of Treasurer.

We need individuals who can add real value to what we do, who are enthusiastic and who can manage their own time effectively but also work within the wider board team. We need individuals to help steer us through some strategic challenges as the environment in which we are operating is changing and we need to think differently and rise to these challenges. We need support of highly experienced individuals with a strategic mindset, who are open minded, innovative and passionate about our cause. If supporting our charity interests you then find out more by contacting Helen Fisher at or give her a call on 01793 729748.

Panto Tickets for SMASH!

The Wrde Up Highworth Music Festival Committee has awarded SMASH £240 to fund the purchase of theatre tickets. This will enable young people that SMASH are involved with to experience Panto this year. What wonderful news! Going to the Theatre is an experience many of the children we work with would normally miss out on but this year many of them will have that opportunity. Thank you so much.
