Following a successful Curry Evening fundraiser recently, the next event by Friends of Smash will be on Friday 11th May 2018. This is a wine tasting event at Magnum Wine Shop in Wood Street, Old Town, SN1, 4AB from 7pm to 9pm.

Many thanks to Emma Lord, a SMASH Mentor, for hosting an evening talking about mental health earlier this week. The evening was very informative and everyone there learnt something new.
It was a great way to help reduce the stigma around mental ill health.
Emma has offered to host such an event again later in the year for which we are very grateful.

The SMASH Team is Recruiting!
Funded by Children In Need, this is a new role within the SMASH Team. Working as a Schools Case Manager, you will work directly with children and young people (CYP) to support and guide long term, self directed positive change.
Working alongside other Project Staff, you will manage and supervise a number of volunteer mentors in the field, and participate, run and engage in 1:1 and group work directly with the CYP.
You will organise and attend educational, confidence building and other group activities with young people including occasional residential weekends and also participate in the training of new Mentors.
You will also conduct initial assessments of young people referred to the Project and offer interim advice and support whilst the young person is on the waiting list prior to being allocated a mentor.

What? A fabulous Indian Buffet experience for only £15 (drinks are extra)

Help us change lives – we are looking for two new trustees…….
SMASH is the youth mentoring charity that serves Swindon. We believe that it only takes one person to change a life. We do this through volunteer youth mentoring, group work and practical advice and support for our young people and their families and guardians.
We help 9-19 year olds, who have or are suffering trauma or difficulties, regain control of their lives. Thanks to our dedicated and hardworking team we are proud to say that 86% of our young people report an increase in control and go on to continue to make self directed positive change.

To ensure we can continue to help the children of Swindon whilst maintaining our high standards, within a changing strategic landscape, we are looking to appoint two new Trustees to join the Board in its role as governing body; setting policy, strategy and ensuring robust governance and financial control.
We are keen to bring additional skills to our Board through the appointment of individuals who ideally have a background in one of the following areas:
- Financial experience
- Educational experience
- Clinical experience in relation to young people

Mentors Needed at SMASH – Next Training planned for February 2018
