There are lots of ways you can support SMASH – here is what has happened recently….
To those of you that took the time to vote for SMASH in the recent MCF Community Awards – we have been awarded a grant of £4,000 and we thank you for this support.
To Winky Foos Bachata who held their annual beach dance party in aid of SMASH on the 11th August – they raised £150 on the night for SMASH. Thanks to Aaron and Katie for contacting us and for thinking of SMASH.
To Claire Billesdon a Senior Designer who volunteered her time to assist us in producing an infographic for our Annual General Meeting. This helped greatly when presenting our annual review of the project. Thank you Claire for donating your time and skills to SMASH.
Memory Makers Summer Activity – 14th August
Earlier this month, SMASH organised its annual Memory Makers Summer Activity. We had 15 highly excitable young people aged 9-12 who had the whole of the swimming pool at Dorcan Recreation Complex all to themselves! Thank you to GLL who manage the complex for providing the facilities and lifeguards for free. Our young people had a great time splashing around, making new friends and catching up with old ones. For some of our young people, this would be the only swimming they do this summer.
When we asked what the young people thought of it all, they said:
After all that fun, it was time for tea. Papa Johns made our day by delivering some fantastic pizzas!! A huge thank you to Papa Johns as not only did they give us free pizza, they had to rota on extra staff to make and deliver it to us, as we needed it outside of their opening hours.

Fundraising For SMASH
It’s been a busy couple of months with various fundraising activities taking place to raise money for SMASH. And it continues!
Most recently, a group of 15 to 17 year olds chose SMASH as their charity of choice whilst undertaking a social action project as part of their 4-week National Citizens Service (NCS) Programme. They have undertaken a Cake Sale, a Fun Run at Coate Water and Bag Packing at the Co-operative in Old Town and at Toys R Us. As of today they have raised over £500 so a huge thank you to all these young people and their team leaders for their efforts.
Looking ahead, Charlie Lawer will be undertaking an abseil for SMASH on Sunday 6th August at Jurys Inn so please go to her justgiving page and sponsor her at https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/charlie-lawer
Our Friends of SMASH Group will be at the Wanborough Show on Saturday 19th August raising awareness of our Project and raising some funds in the process.
Finally, we look forward to welcoming another group of NCS Students in August to continue the Programme’s support of SMASH.
