Fundraising For SMASH

It’s been a busy couple of months with various fundraising activities taking place to raise money for SMASH. And it continues!

Most recently, a group of 15 to 17 year olds chose SMASH as their charity of choice whilst undertaking a social action project as part of their 4-week National Citizens Service (NCS) Programme.  They have undertaken a Cake Sale, a Fun Run at Coate Water and Bag Packing at the Co-operative in Old Town and at Toys R Us. As of today they have raised over £500 so a huge thank you to all these young people and their team leaders for their efforts.

Looking ahead, Charlie Lawer will be undertaking an abseil for SMASH on Sunday 6th August at Jurys Inn so please go to her justgiving page and sponsor her at

Our Friends of SMASH Group will be at the Wanborough Show on Saturday 19th August raising awareness of our Project and raising some funds in the process.

Finally, we look forward to welcoming another group of NCS Students in August to continue the Programme’s support of SMASH.

Please save the 5th September 2017, 7-9pm in your calendars for the SMASH AGM.

We would be thrilled to review the year with you, give you a chance to meet some of our young people and mentors and also hear about our future plans.

There will be a few nibbles and a glass of something to go with it.

More details will follow nearer the time but the venue will be: Civic Offices, Euclid Street, Swindon SN1 2JH

Friends of SMASH Update

Friends of SMASH took a stall at this year’s Children’s Fete on the 8th July, with the aim of increasing awareness, raising funds and recruiting volunteers for the Project.  The Children’s Fete is Swindon’s oldest summer event, dating back to 1866.   It is organized by the Mechanics’ Institution Trust on behalf of the Town.  The glorious weather ensured that there were plenty of visitors.

We ran a “Water or Wine” Tombola for adults and we had a steady flow of people coming to our stall – some several times!   We also ran a Lucky Dip for children, this too proved very popular and we had to replenish our stock of prizes twice during the afternoon.    The day ran very smoothly and we were delighted by the total of £400.00 raised.

We are hoping to repeat our success at Wanborough Show on Saturday 19th August.   Come and visit us there and try your luck.    We would also be very grateful for any help on the day or donations of wine to put on the stall. Contact Jill Ridley on

The next social event will be on Saturday 30th September – a Night at the Dogs, Swindon Greyhound Stadium.  Gates open at 6.30pm, with the first race at 7.25pm.  Tickets are £5 with the total cost of the ticket being donated to SMASH.  Please put the date in your diary.  Further details will follow.   Tickets can be purchased from Carol Jack on
